8 Week Coaching Plan
Welcome to my coaching page, week 7 of our eight week programme has got everybody working hard and thinking about what they want to achieve for the coming season.
Introducing Trevor Searle, Nick Smith and Carole Pope who is on the road to become a Professional Golfer!
Carole Pope
Carole has everything going for her, her whole game is the best it’s ever been. But what’s holding her back is her mental game. Over the next few weeks we will concentrate on her short game and how she thinks around a golf course.

I have been concentrating on the practice from 100yards. The main aim is to attempt to give myself plenty of chances of 1 putts rather than 2 putting as this should help me to shoot the scores I need to get through my playing ability test for the PGA. I think it has been paying off as I had 4 birdies in my round during the weekend stableford including two 2’s. I also played at Brean this week in their Celebrity Pro/Am which was good fun but REALLY windy. I was playing with three gents from a company in Taunton who I hadn’t met before but all turned out to be good fun – none of them were golfers so we were having mini golf lessons on the way round. The new holes were also open at Brean and from first impressions, it is going to greatly improve the course. I played a good steady round and managed to play to 4 (2 under my handicap) despite the wind so I came away very happy with my game and confident that all the practice is starting to pay off.

Nick Smith (Handicap 24)
I am really pleased for Nick. Dropping his handicap by four shots and then being part of the winning team in the Martin Bull Memorial. At the moment I am working on Nick’s alignment and his short game. Over the next couple of weeks we will do a lot of work on the range with some brollies.

Well, what a weekend! With most of the pointers that Nick had given me from my last lesson in my head I managed to reduce my handicap from 24 to 20 and be a member of the winning team in the Martin Bull Memorial along with Louise Allen, Richard Banks and Nick Parker.
My set-up at address had been incorrect to achieve a good ball flight, length and accuracy, which Nick had worked on in the lesson. Nick also got me to concentrate more on yardage on approach shots looking to go past the pin rather than just get on the green.

Trevor Searle
Driver lesson. At the moment Trevor uses a 3 wood off the tee, which then forces him to hit it harder to keep up with his playing partners. On the tee I made Trevor use a Bazooka 15 degree driver, I straightened him up and he hit a beautiful shot straight down the middle, Trevor was amazed at how far he had hit it, I could tell this as his mouth was wide open. I also noticed that Trevor has not been taking enough club on all his shots, all this has done, is make him try and hit the ball harder. From now on Trevor has to take 2 extra clubs more than what he thinks it is. And swing easier. Lastly Trevor will now be keeping a diary off all his shots, yardage, club taken, shot outcome et.

Well I’m still suffering from tension! Just had a lovely lesson from our Pro Nick, on driving.
I tried a Tour Edge Bazooka Driver, well after Nick lined me up correctly again, I hit that straight down the centre of the fairway. I find that I’m still tense and trying to force the club to the ball instead of letting the club do the work. I must work harder on my alignment and to relax more.
Congratulations to Nick Smith on dropping four shots of his handicap, keep it up Nick.
